She's slowly moving into position within the channel

Smokestack is being lowered as she moves along

Smoke rolls from the back as the Calliope is pressurized to play for the onlookers

The other smokestack starts going down

Each blast of smoke represents a different musical note

She's in place now & rising, while the music plays!

We watch with avid fascination as the decks slowly rise out of the water.

The water has reached the proper level now.  The far gate is opening.

The Mississippi Queen will exit through this gate, continuing her journey eastward

She is beginning to move again.  The smoky sounds of the calliope have ended

The gawkers on deck are gawking at the gawkers on shore, as she moves nearer to where we stand

She's heading toward the gate

Much too big for the whole boat to fit into our camera lens

She's picking up speed as the paddle churns the water

A lot of gawking transpires as she passes in front of us

Passing under the cement bridge with smokestacks down
Good thing!

We're all still exchanging gawks as she heads out to open sea...er... river

We're hoping to see her smokestacks raised again

Isn't she Magnificent?!  That my house could be half as big!

She passed under the bridge safely

She's not raising her smokestacks yet

It's hard to tell, but I think they are coming up!

They seem to be raising.  The gawkers on deck went back to their staterooms.  J

I can see the smokestacks!  Now the gawkers on shore can go home.  J
